British filmmaker and “visual chameleon” Benedict Campbell has shot a short film on the customising work of Californian bike restorer Dustin Kott. Although a fan of British bikes, Kott’s latest project is based on a Honda 750/4.
The two first met in Los Angeles when top advertising photographer Campbell was working on a Harley-Davidson commission. He was surprised to find that a typically West Coast customiser was choosing not to work on American Choppers, and that Kott instead preferred Japanese-based projects in the European ‘café racer’ style.
