A scenic slice of paradise
Situated in the Galisteo Basin close to Santa Fe in New Mexico, the Cerro Pelon Ranch sprawls over 32 square-miles and centres around a spectacular main residence, which ‘floats’ on a reflecting pool.
The property adjoins what are certainly the most beautiful stables and riding arenas we’ve ever seen, again designed by Tadao Ando with his characteristic use of natural light and intrinsic relationship the surrounding environment. There are also two guesthouses, a private airstrip and accompanying hangar, and ‘Silverado Movie Town’, an old Western town purpose-built for use as a film-set in 1956. We wonder whether Tom Ford used to climb astride a horse and patrol the desert around the ranch, swinging by the Silverado saloon for a well-earned drink? For 75m US dollars, you could do the same – just don’t forget your Stetson.
