Snapshot, 1966: Never let grave danger get in the way of a good shot...

It’s 1966 at Spa-Francorchamps, and neither a deluge of rain nor a suicidal cameraman is going to stop ‘Black Jack’ Brabham from taking Eau Rouge – arguably the world’s most perilous corner – at anything other than maximum attack…

This year’s Belgian Grand Prix is notable not only for the treacherous conditions that will see only five of the 15 starters cross the finish line, but also for the presence of the production company for the forthcoming Formula 1 racing thriller, ‘Grand Prix’. An extended segment of the film will feature footage from this very race, and camera crews have been dispatched to various points on the infamous 14-kilometre circuit to capture the action – with one particular braveheart stationed trackside (in the most literal sense of the word) at the blind crest of Eau Rouge. Let’s hope his bravery is rewarded with plenty of pommes frites and access to the post-race party...
