Spring has clearly sprung for RM Sotheby’s in Amelia Island

With opening auctions on both sides of the pond behind us, we can now focus on the warmer weather, shining sun, and all the delightful gems that start to pop up with the change of season. The RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island sale on 11 March is the perfect kick-off to spring, and here are our 10 picks…

A keen eye

After its success at the beginning of this year, we think it’s only fair to continue to keep a watchful eye on the ‘youngtimer’ Porsches set to cross the auction block in Amelia this March, with the top of our list being this black-on-black, 18,000-mile Porsche 911 Turbo S (est. 400,000–450,000 US dollars). Within the sale, the private collection of Orin Smith will be auctioned off, and with over 12 Rolls-Royces in the Gentleman’s Collection alone, the highlight is sure to be the ’58 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I “Honeymoon Express”, looking to fetch between 1.3m and 1.8m dollars. Along with Rolls’, the British dominate the sale, with the two-time Le Mans entrant Bentley 41/2-Litre Sports “The Bobtail” leading the pack (estimate 6.5–7.5m dollars). And it wouldn’t be an auction without a couple of rambunctious red horses, with the equally outrageous Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta and Ferrari 250 GT SWB seeking 8–10m and 9–10m dollars, respectively.
