Anniversaries galore
Celebrations at ‘The Quail’ this year included 50 years of the Lamborghini Miura, marked with a dedicated class comprising a spectacularly vibrant selection of 25 examples, and BMW’s centenary, which saw the public debut of the new Jägermeister-inspired 2002 Hommage, displayed alongside the original cult-classic saloon. Lamborghini even chose the exclusive event to reveal the drop-top version of its Centenario, its limited-edition supercar built to mark 100 years since the birth of the company’s founder Ferruccio Lamborghini.
A fitting winner
A staple of Monterey Car Week, ‘The Quail’ is a special event with a unique atmosphere. Where else can you stroll around with a glass of champagne in your hand, ogling priceless classics such as the 1965 Le Mans-winning Ferrari 250 LM or McLaren F1 GTR Longtail and shooting the breeze with racing legends such as Jackie Stewart and Dario Franchitti? Snatching the ‘Rolex Best of Show’ gong was the beguilingly original 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Pinin Farina Spider – a fitting winner for such a top-tier event.
