In its customary, superlative-laden press material on the new car, Mercedes promises “S-Class ride comfort with pioneering driving dynamics – on the road and off it.”
It’s clear, though, that the latest GL 7-seater is a limousine in all but name, with four-wheel-drive capability for North American winters.
Expect to see a fleet of all-black GLs at music awards ceremonies worldwide, then.
Two versions will be available at launch, a 258bhp ‘GL 350’ V6 diesel (actually 2,987cc) and a 408bhp ‘GL 500’, with a 4,663cc petrol V8.
The car will be available in the UK later this year. Reports on 1st April that the Stuttgart company had developed an innovative photochromatic solution to embedding a green, Transport for London Public Carriage Office mini-cab sticker in the windscreen were neither confirmed nor denied by Mercedes.
