Jaguar Project 7: The D-type, resurrected?

A unique F-type-based concept with design cues harking back to the legendary D-type will take a bow at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed...

Named ‘Project 7’ – a reference to Jaguar’s seven Le Mans victories – the F-type has been given a variety of styling addenda, including a reinterpretation of the D-type’s characteristic offset tailfin, and is finished in Flag Blue - the very same shade worn by the Ecurie Ecosse Le Mans-winning cars of 1956 and 1957. Gone is the F-type’s roof mechanism; a roll-hoop is incorporated into the new fin, while the passenger seat is removed, replaced by a dock for the bespoke helmet.

Read between the lines and it would seem that Jaguar is also using Project 7 to attract some of Porsche's limelight, as the 911's Golden Jubilee celebrations are at the centre of this year’s Goodwood Festival. Jaguar has its own fiftieth anniversary to celebrate: that of the lightweight E-type.
