Patience is a virtue
Elon Musk’s “top-secret master-plan” (first announced in 2006) is nearing completion — “create a low-volume sports car” (check – Model S), “use that money to develop a medium-volume car at a lower price” (check – Model X), and “use that money to create an affordable, high-volume car.” The Model 3 is the final iteration of said plan and, as order forms are being filled and production is well underway, it seems Mr Musk has already moved on to a new project: the Performance variant. While very little information has been confirmed, other than a release date of mid-2018, the Performance model could have a difficult time staying within the “affordable” range, seeing as the Model 3 already comes in at a base price of 26,650 GBP and boasts a top speed of 130mph, a 0–60mph time of 5.6 seconds, and a range of 220 miles. It seems we’ll have to wait a while longer to see how this new version will affect the pecking order within the exciting company’s ever-expanding range…
