For those with the pleasant task of purchasing a new toy, Historics’ sale on 4 March has something for everyone. Our interest was piqued by the selection of Mercedes-Benzes on offer, with two ‘sleepers’ making our shortlist: a pillarless-powerhouse 2001 CL600, the sweeping lines of which hide a 367bhp, six-litre V12 (price on request), and a V8 wunder-wagon 1998 C43 AMG Estate (estimate £6,000–10,000) — both are being sold with no reserve. The often overlooked Lancia Flavia also caught our eye, with the gorgeous dark blue-over-oxblood-red, right-hand-drive example from 1963 looking particularly tempting at an estimated £10,000–15,000.
