1986 MG METRO 6R4

One of this car’s outstanding features is its mileage: just 1,397 miles (2248km) as this catalogue went to press. In 1990, Baudouin Lempereur received a fax from the British firm Dutton-Forshaw, who were Austin Rover dealers, offering him two MG Metro 6R4s, one of them a roadgoing model, finished in white and with only 85 miles on the clock. At the time, Lempereur took no action, but it is likely that it was the same car that he bought in 1991 from a specialist in Liège as stated in the period bill of sale present in the file of the car. A tax document indicates that the car was first registered in June 1986 and that it had been with
its previous owner since February 1989.
When it arrived in Belgium, the MG was entirely finished in white and was virtually new. In order to bring its appearance closer to that of the works cars, Lempereur had the top part of the body and the roll cage repainted in blue. He also had a set of additional lights fitted, like those mounted on the rally cars. Inside the car, the original seats made way for OMP seats to the FIA standards of the time, but the dashboard, MG leather steering wheel and door cards are original. Some parts have been added, including a carbon dress-up kit for the engine. Since this work was carried out, the car has been little used, Lempereur driving it mainly as a VIP guest for the start of some events. As a result, this MG Metro 6R4 is in superb condition, close to when it left the factory. Although it runs, it will need a service before being used again. Within Group B, the car stood out on account of its naturally-aspirated V6, prepared by Cosworth, in contrast to the turbocharged engines which had become widespread. Its condition and history will ensure it attracts the interest of fans of the model.
