In the mid-50s, the Wahlborg Company of Torrance, California was becoming one of the premier quarter midget constructors in the US. Sporting their classic and desirable rounded front nose, the cars quickly became a class of their own.

The Wahlborg presented here was purchased by Oscar Koveleski for his five-year-old son Robert. It was driven to many victories by the young Koveleski in 44 races between 1958 and 1961 in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Before being retired for display (and later storage) purposes, the midget's engine was "pickled" to keep its internal mechanics lubricated. A rare Continental single AU7-R, the engine has an aluminum – rather than cast iron – gear assembly, a forged aluminum connecting rod, special hi-lift cam, heavier valve springs, and 'R' modified cylinder head. Though it has not run in over five decades, the motor was recently turned over by the consignor in preparation for the auction, which can be viewed through a video link on file. Offered from 64 years of single ownership, this charming piece of nostalgia would be a fantastic accent to any collection and, even more so, an absolute thrill for any young motoring enthusiast.
