Beschreibung

Beginning in 1957, a few hundred fortunate Fiat 600s were converted into the Jolly model by the celebrated Italian design house Ghia. Redressed with wicker seats and a fringed soft top, the Jolly was targeted at the wellheeled elite of the Mediterranean for their jolly jaunts from restaurant to yacht, or around a sun-drenched golf course. The diminutive runabout was priced at nearly double the standard Fiat 600 and became the darling of the aristocracy.

This 1959 example has been superbly restored. Once owned by a Roman family for use at their beach house in Portofino, Italy, the Jolly was sold in 1977 to a collector in Treviso. In 2016, it was acquired by the current owner and imported to Holland. Already a sound example, this Jolly received a nut-and-bolt restoration with meticulous paint in a version of its original shade of Rose. New wicker seats and a laminated windshield were installed, while the chrome was renewed and a new surrey top was crafted and fitted.

The restoration was completed in 2019, and in appreciation of its newfound excellence, it received First in Class at the Zoute Concours d’Elegance, in Knokke-Heist, Belgium. It is believed that fewer than 100 of the original Jollys survive today and this one comes with documentation from the Automobile Club d’Italia, its concours award, original tool bag and jack, and other accompanying extras – presenting a lovely restored example.

*Please note that the published catalogue description showed a similar Fiat Jolly previously sold by Gooding because photos of this lot were not available at the time of publication. Photos of the actual lot are posted on goodingco.com.
