Great look
It was not known at the time, but very quickly the BMWs were catalogued as "the best motorbike in the world"! Convinced that the press of the time was right, the temptation to improve the performance a little more was too tempting...
This R50 S, nicknamed "La française" because of its colours, was deeply modified by receiving a Serie 5 engine on a 2nd series frame. The engine is therefore a rebuilt R60 still in its original capacity. In thirty years of existence, the BMW 5 and 6 Series have established themselves as long-distance motorbikes. While the competition was moving towards performance, the Bavarian manufacturer preferred to refine its offer with accomplished and more robust motorbikes. That's what makes this transformation so interesting. The frame was treated and then thermo-lacquered and a Serie 5 fork was fitted to replace the original Earles. If the seat is a typical "home-made" café racer of the time, the tank comes from a 50cc Puch. The engine block and cylinder heads have been painted in matt black to accentuate the sporty look. Powder-coated rims and new spokes, custom aluminium mudguards... all the custom codes are respected and perfectly adapted. The long stainless steel exhausts will not let you hear otherwise!
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, on June the 20th, 2021.
