Length: 2,36 x 1,22, exterior colour: red and white, interior colour: black; this 1977 Italycar 312T2 is a rare and expertly-built half-scale replica of Ferrari’s multiple Championship-winning F1 car of the era; it is equipped with a 60ccm two-stroke engine, paired with a two-speed transmission. In 1976, Niki Lauda and his teammate Clay Regazzoni won the Constructor’s Championship for Ferrari driving the 312T2. Powered by the 3.0-litre flat-12 engine that produced 500 HP at 12,000 rpm, the car remains a motorsport icon of its decade.The Italycar 77 was not designed merely as a toy, but as an exciting mini racer. With its 60cc powertrain, it is capable of speeds up to 40mph. “Due to the high speeds attainable, both Italycar S.N.C. and Italycar USA Inc. will require owners to sign a release of responsibility at the time of purchase,” said the original brochure for the model. The performance is kept in check by a set of hydraulic disc brakes as well as independent suspension. Rather than using a set of parts from other half-scale cars, Italycar reputedly approached some of Ferrari’s suppliers directly, to ask for bespoke items for the replica. The steering wheel came from Momo; the racing slick tyres from Goodyear. It was also equipped with genuine Veglia Borletti instrumentation, safety belts, a roll bar and alloy wheels. The fibreglass bodywork is a close recreation of Lauda’s 312T2, presented with authentic style livery over the red and white paintwork. Initially planned as a run of 100 working replicas, it is not known exactly how many were built, but fewer than 10 are currently accounted for by online Ferrari forums on the matter. It is very rare to find a 1977 Italycar 312T2 available in Europe. When new, it was imported exclusively by Italycar USA Inc. of Greensboro, North Carolina - and most examples remain in North America. Described at the time as “the finest scale model Formula One ever constructed”, and originally designed for children between 7 and 12 years of age, this rare 312T2 replica would make a fun and unusual addition to any Ferrari collection, or a thrilling ‘first car’ for a future racing driver.
