Considered today as one of the best berlinettas to come out of Maranello, the 328 was a resounding success, but it is the GTB – the closed version – which is the rarest. Let us return briefly to the story of its development, starting in 1975, when the 308 caused a sensation when it was presented in Paris. It quickly became a bestseller for the company in Europe and, above all, in the United States. Adored for its styling, but also for the performance delivered by its engine, it was continually developed over 10 years. The model name changed when a larger engine arrived. In 1985, the 328 was introduced, bringing with it a number of technical and stylistic developments aimed at continuing the success enjoyed by its predecessor. The engine capacity and power output increased, the bumpers now recalled those of the Testarossa and the interior was completely revised, a series of improvements which made the car far more pleasant to use.
Our Ferrari 328 GTB was delivered new on 8 April 1987 by the specialist Auto Becker in Düsseldorf, finished in Rosso Corsa with a black leather interior. Its service book confirms that the car was always serviced in the Ferrari dealer network or by well-known specialists in Germany and then in France from 1994. We also have an extensive file of invoices from the two previous French owners, safety inspection certificates and valuation reports. Kept by its third owner for a long period from 2005 to 2018, the car appeared in a comparison feature in the French magazine Auto Rétro in 2014. With a superb appearance and perfect panel gaps, the body has been resprayed to a very high standard, with the paint perfectly applied. It is a real pleasure to get behind the wheel, where you will also notice that the dashboard has been recovered in leather, producing a splendid result.
