Beschreibung
"It is not until you view this motor car in the flesh, that you may fully appreciate such a lovely vehicle and perhaps one that Triumph should have built in period. During 1969, the Mk. II GT6 was introduced in an attempt to address the handling problems of the earlier Mk. I GT6, that was first released in July 1966 and a car that was designed and developed upon the Triumph Spitfire body and chassis. This is how this car started life, as a right hand drive UK supplied GT6 in 1970. Fast forward to 2005, a gentleman who resided in Portugal acquired this Triumph and, as he lived in a sunny climate, wanted to enjoy a convertible there so he embarked on a project to convert the coupé to a full open top sports car in left hand drive. The bodyshell was stripped and converted using correct Triumph panels, thus ensuring that the conversion met the standards and strength of the Triumph Spitfire and to facilitate a larger capacity engine. The coachwork was finished in Triumph signal red, both on the topsides and the undersides and, we hope you will agree, looks resplendent. It is important to reiterate that this is not a converted Spitfire, but a genuine GT6 that has been professionally modified. A triumph 2500cc power unit was sourced and fitted with a six into three into one stainless steel exhaust manifold and twin SU carburettors. The unit was mated to an overdrive gearbox whilst the rest of the mechanicals were overhauled as required. The interior was trimmed in black whilst to finish, a set of Minilite alloy wheels were added. The history file includes a photographic record of the conversion, a large amount of invoices, an original Triumph GT6 handbook, a UK V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate with no advisories, valid until March 2019.
The Giovanni Michelotti designed Spitfire and GT6 certainly combine well with this offering. Not only that, but we are assured by the vendor that the overdrive operates correctly and the engine runs very well whilst that the extra power delivers in an exciting manner on the road. With summer fast approaching, what better way to enjoy classic open air motoring with performance to boot?
