Beschreibung
Seeking a more powerful version of its successful Alpine model, Sunbeam parent Rootes Group turned to Carroll Shelby to engineer an alternative. Shelby returned with a Ford 260 V-8-powered Alpine, backed by a Borg Warner four-speed gearbox and rack and pinion steering. Though Lord Rootes was initially incensed that the car had been developed without his knowledge, one test drive turned him into a devotee.
The beautifully presented example offered here is finished in its original Mediterranean Blue (code 100) with a matching hardtop and black vinyl interior. Sourced from a Texas-based collector who owned the Tiger for a reported 25 years, it was found to be in particularly well-preserved condition and a perfect candidate for a conservation-oriented, sympathetic restoration. Following a significant refurbishment by noted specialist David Craft in Southern California, the Sunbeam retains its original dash top and door panels, as well as much of its original undercoating. The wood-rimmed steering wheel, burl dash veneer, hardtop, and original wheel covers all announce this Tiger as something special. It was recently awarded for its level of preservation and originality at a Shelby show in Gardena, California. Tigers are among the most rewarding and engaging sports cars of their era, and this fine example, beautifully recommissioned, while still exuding its originality, is sure to impress, whether on a picturesque road or competing on the show field.
