THE SUPERLATIVE MOTOR CAR

Charles Rolls famously said, “Poor quality is remembered long after low prices are forgotten”. Indeed, together with Sir Frederick Henry Royce, a noted engineer and car designer, they formed Rolls-Royce, making their slogan “Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough”. It is with these ideals that Rolls-Royce produces some of the most highly regarded and sought after motorcars in the world. Synonymous with comfort and power, the Rolls-Royce is at the pinnacle of the fine automobile world, offering unparalleled style and panache when arriving at an event or simply driving around town.

This Car's Past

This may very well be the finest example of a 1985 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur. Lovingly held by the original purchaser, the owner of the Rolls-Royce dealership, it has been well maintained with every service. Sporting only 28k miles and options not seen on other cars in its class, including special rims and interior options, this motorcar is special.

History of the Model

The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is the long-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit. The model replaced the Silver Wraith in 1980, bringing with it the angular design styling that is so fashionable today. Continuing the unibody construction initiated by the Shadow in 1967, the Silver Spur was given more power than its predecessors and was redesigned to be less upright, the work of Austrian stylist Fritz Feller. Adorned with the timeless Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, the base price for this model was approximately $119,000 in 1980.
American models packed a 220-hp, 6.75-liter aluminum V-8's with Bosch fuel injection, compared to their carbureted European brethren. The Silver Spur's finish is as superior, as is to be expected, with burl walnut wood trim, Connolly leather hide interiors and Wilton carpets. Steering was power rack-and-pinion and Rolls-Royce used a hydraulic self-leveling suspension at the rear, power disc brakes all-around, and a three-speed automatic transmission. Almost everything was standard, including air conditioning, power windows, seats, and door locks.
Famous for their sophistication and durability, the Silver Spur revolutionized the notion of a luxury-touring sedan. Powerful, smooth, comfortable and stylish, the Silver Spur is a pleasure to drive and looks equally stunning moving around town or wafting down the expressway.

MARKET TREND

Rolls-Royce's of this quality and caliber are difficult to find. When they are offered, they generally sell for between $20k to $30k. These prices have been holding steady for years and will likely continue to do so. While lesser versions may be had for $7k to $10k, the condition of the motorcar is directly related to the purchase price.
