Beschreibung
Chassis No. G1196
Reo began as the second automobile company of Oldsmobile founder, Ransom E. Olds, who gave it his initials. It became known for well-engineered, solidly built cars, a tradition of quality that continued after the firm moved to truck production in 1935. Reo produced some of the best heavy-duty trucks in America, including the famed Speed Wagon line, which would be well-remembered in popular culture as the namesake of the classic rock band, Reo Speedwagon, of the 1970s and 1980s. The firm eventually merged with competitor Diamond T, resulting in the equally well-known Diamond-Reo line.
The Speedwagon offered here was bodied as a fire truck by the Obenchain-Boyer Company of Logansport, Indiana, a renowned manufacturer of fire apparatus active, most famously under simply the Boyer name, for an even hundred years from 1888 to 1988. It is still in its original paint, including decorations and enigmatic 'M.A.F.D.' livery, and equipped with disc wheels, as well as a matching spare wheel and tire. Numerous accessories, suiting most any fire-fighting purpose, include power take-off, chain-driven drives and sprockets, spotlights, and assorted hoses and valves for the on-board pump. Original OB Company badges are present throughout. Over the years, the fire truck has been occasionally employed in local parades, decorated to promote Taylor Made, and thus has a few small updates such as turn signals. At the time of cataloging, it had recorded 3,857 miles.
Can't fight that feeling? Buy a Reo Speedwagon – and take it on parade, sharing it with friends and family who will love riding along in a great classic fire truck.
