Beschreibung
The 911 Targa was introduced by Porsche at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1966, a unique open top version of its iconic 2+2 cupè, so called to celebrate the victories obtained at the famous Targa Florio race in Sicily. The Targa had a removable rooftop which was connected to a steel roll-over protection, where also the rear window was attached to. This configuration resulted in a whole new icon and started a construction type which soon became an integral part of Porsche and was adopted by countless other manufacturers.
In 1976 with the J series of the 911 Porsche was the first manufacturer in the world to use hot-dip zinc galvanizing as part of the production process for every car, and also to offer a 6 year warranty against rusting. The 165 hp 2.7 S was, alongside the Turbo the only Porsche exported to the United States and in both targa and cupè form remains highly collectible to this day.
