The Dyna Junior project was born out of Panhard's desire to settle in the United States in 1950. Fergus Motor, which imported the French brand to New York, suggested that the firm make a small roadster aimed at American students. Convinced, Jean Panhard launched the project using the Dyna X chassis as a base. The design of the bodywork was entrusted to Di Rosa, who was already working on Panhard utility vehicles. The first prototype was offered to Fergus Motors in May 1951, but Fergus Motors was not convinced and withdrew from the project in June. Paul Panhard nevertheless decides to continue studies of this roadster to adapt it to the French market. Albert Lemaitre was then commissioned to redesign the bodywork in order to present it at the 1951 Paris Motor Show. Compact, low, and very round, the silhouette of the Dyna Junior is unprecedented. Unlike the Dyna X, its body will be made of steel because it is easier to shape and less expensive. The car is powered by a 745cm 3 flat-twin powered by a Zenith double-barrel carburetor, allowing it to reach 125 km / h. With a very attractive price, the Dyna junior was very successful from its presentation. The production is first entrusted to the workshop of Di Rosa then it will be repatriated to the Orléans factory in 1953. That same year, the Dyna Junior 5CV and 5CV Sprint appear with an engine increased to 851cm3 and an improved chassis to support the installation of a three-seater bench. A convertible version also makes its appearance recognizable by its side windows. In 1954, it will know a final evolution with the modification of its front face. The core grille inherited from the Dyna X is replaced by a simple oval air intake adorned with an aluminum blade. Production ceased in 1956 with a total of around 4,700 units manufactured.

The Panhard Junior that we present is an X87 convertible version. It has a red livery associated with a black interior. Restored a few years ago, it is equipped with an 851cc S5 engine which will need to be restarted.
