Beschreibung
During the late 1920s, Packard was building some of the finest automobiles in the world. Their over-engineered nature earned them a reputation of exceptional reliability and they are considered to be the very finest automobiles of their time. The model 443 of 1928 was one of the grandest automobiles of its day with its 143" wheelbase. Its nearly silent straight eight produced a steady wave of torque and, as with other Packards of this period, the 443 was not an intimidating car to drive.
This handsome 1928 Packard Eight 443 Phaeton is a very original example that has been owned by some of the greatest names in Classic Era collecting. Mr. O.A. Corriher, a Mercer owner from Landis, North Carolina, owned the Phaeton before selling it in the late 1990s to Charles LeMaitre of Hardwick Village, Massachusetts, and Arthur Smith of Connecticut, both connoisseurs of unrestored cars. They owned it together for about 25 years before selling it to renowned collector and preservation-class expert Peter Hageman of Kirkland, Washington. Mr. Hageman eventually sold the car to the consignor, a prominent collector of the most significant automobiles in the world.
The consignor fell in love with the car’s condition, and he notes that it retains some of its original paint and interior. This is a powerful and attractive classic with an incredible patina. Finished in black over a perfectly patinated Oxblood interior, this Packard would make an excellent candidate for tours or preservation-class display.
