Ready to hit the road
Produced by the Morris Garage brand and manufactured from 1962 to 1980, the MG B is the epitome of the sports convertible in the pure English tradition. When it comes out, it has the heavy task of succeeding the MG A, and of preserving its values and sensations while offering more comfort and safety. To achieve this, it will be built on the basis of a more rigid monocoque body offering better habitability. This unit will be driven by a four-cylinder 1800 cc engine developing 95 horsepower and allowing it to reach 170 km/h top speed. Presented at the London Motor Show in 1962, the MG B immediately met with the expected success and the first road tests validated the car's announced qualities. The MG B would evolve over the years to meet the increasingly demanding standards imposed by the American market, where it was the best-selling car. In spite of this, its success did not diminish and until 1980, a total of 512,880 convertibles and coupes were sold throughout the world.
The MG B illustrated in these pages dates from 1979 and was delivered new to the United States where it will remain until the end of the 2000s. Completely restored, the car arrived in France in 2013, sold by O Bolides, a dealer specialised in vintage cars, to a collector in the Côtes d'Armor region. For personal reasons, he sold it barely a year later to its current owner. This is how this pretty MG B will join La Baule where it will be used mainly in the summer season. The car will be carefully maintained by its owner as evidenced by the last general maintenance carried out in 2019 for an amount of 1721 €. The car presents very well in spite of some very slight superficial defects found in some places of the bodywork. The easy-to-handle soft top is in very good condition, and from a general point of view the car is healthy and its mechanics work perfectly. Its colour combination and spoked rims also give it a very elegant look. An ideal English convertible, accessible, easy to maintain and ready to hit the road!
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Paris, France, on March the 21th, 2021.
