At the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955 MG had high hopes for its new model and its senior executives hovered over the new MG A. For some time the manufacturer had been facing stiff competition in the small sports car market. It was therefore vital to attract young and well-to-do customers, while continuing the tradition of the MG TC, TD and TF. Fortunately for the company, the new model was very well received, thanks especially to the MG A’s extremely fine design by Sydney Enever. Its styling and engineering both contributed to the sporty feel expected of such a car.
This MG A 1500, first registered in 1958, benefitted from a complete restoration 4 years ago. Bought more than twenty years earlier, she had to wait patiently for her owner to reach retirement age before she could be attended to. The bodywork was stripped back to bare metal, treated against corrosion and then repainted. The engine was replaced by a 1600 cc unit taken from a later version of the MGA. Completely overhauled, this engine gives more comfortable performance and improves driving pleasure. A new exhaust system was fitted. The tyres (Vredestein 165/80 R15) are nearly new, as are the brakes and the shock absorbers. Turning to the cosmetics, the hood has been replaced and handsome new chrome wire wheels have been fitted in place of the original painted items. As if all that was not enough, the electrical wiring loom has also been replaced.
This MG is very pleasant to drive and handles impeccably, always attracting a thumbs-up sign as it goes past! This desirable roadster is ready to take you out for a trouble-free drive.
This car will be sold during an auction sale organized by AGUTTES Auction House.
It will take place in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on March the 17th, 2019.
