The Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Cabriolet of the series W112/3 offered here was registered in 1964. It was repainted in the authentic colour Midnight Blue (#904). The factory colour was Copper (#463). The blue shimmer of the Midnight Blue in combination with various chrome trim parts has a very noble effect and makes for an engaging appearance. The black leather of the interior installed during the restoration complements the overall appearance of the 300 SE excellently and is in impeccable condition. The original leather was lotus yellow. In the interior, dashboards made of burl wood are captivating and offer a very nice colour contrast.
Gradients and uneven roads leave the 6-cylinder in-line engine with its 3 -litre capacity and the air suspension unimpressed. The driving experience is best described by the word comfort, because that is exactly what this 300 SE offers. Although it does not have a flashy paint job or an intrusive exhaust system, it is an absolute eye-catcher and draws the eye. The Mercedes Benz 300 SE Cabriolet is in excellent condition with matching numbers, as evidenced by a 2019 appraisal.

History of the series
------------------------
The W 112 series is based on the practically identical body of the W 111 series, but stands out with a large proportion of chrome trim. From 1962, after the end of the 300 d "Adenauer" series (W 189), it was the only model to represent Daimler-Benz's upmarket luxury class for a short time. The cabriolets are technically the same as the saloons, but unlike them they have a lower roofline and no real "tail fins".
Technically, the W 112 differed from its smaller counterpart in several ways: it took over the six-cylinder engine of the W 189 with mechanical intake manifold injection and 160 or later 170 hp, a four-speed automatic gearbox newly developed by Mercedes, an air suspension developed with Bosch and power steering for noticeably increased comfort. This set new standards in the luxury class, but also had its price: a saloon was available from 24,500 DM as a short version, but this could quickly rise to over 40,000 DM with some optional extras.
In 1967, production of the coupés and cabriolets of the W 112 series ended; they were replaced by those of the W 111 series, which continued to be produced until 1971.
