Beschreibung
The Flaminia continued Lancia’s reputation for engineering expertise and was best exemplified in the pre-series Sport model. This Flaminia Sport, chassis 824.00-1051, was completed August 25, 1959, and is just one of 99 Sport models built with distinctive Zagato coachwork featuring covered headlights. Finished in red over a beige interior, this Flaminia was reportedly imported by Max Hoffman who sold it to music producer John S. Elizalde of Southern California in the early 1960s.
The consignor recently purchased the car from its long-term Elizalde family ownership. While the car does not have an engine, the aluminum body is intact, along with glass panels, trim, inner fenders, grille, door handles and locks, windshield wipers, headlights, and parking lights. The interior retains its seats, door panels, doorsills, Lancia steering wheel, pedals, and dashboard, complete with switches and instrument cluster, with the exception of the clock. This is a left-hand-drive model and its mechanical components include one installed and one spare transaxle, brake, suspension and steering components, and four correct wheels and tires, but no engine.
In its current form, this Lancia makes for an ideal candidate for restoration, allowing its next owner to select color and trim to suit their personal tastes. Upon completion, this rare pairing of Lancia mechanicals and Zagato styling will be one of the most coveted European grand tourers, a delight to drive, and welcome at any concours event or vintage rally.
