Appeared in 1979, the Lancia Delta is a compact sedan whose line is signed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Its success was immediate and the press awarded it the European Car of the Year Trophy in 1980. The basic version was followed by the GT, then the HF Turbo, the S4 (destined for Group B rally homologation), the HF 4WD (the first Lancia Integrale to win the world championship in 1987), the HF Integrale (which in turn won the world title in 1988) and finally, in 1989, the HF Integrale 16v. In 1991, the Italian manufacturer presented the first evolution of its Delta HF Integrale, which would win the year after an eleventh World Rally Championship title. The final evolution of the Lancia Delta Integrale, the Evoluzione 2 appeared in 1993 and saw the power of the Lampredi 4-cylinder in-line turbocharged Lampredi now pushed to 215 horsepower with a torque of 320 Nm obtained at just 2,500 rpm. In rallying, for this year 1993, Auriol and Kankkunen leave Lancia, as do the sponsors Martini. The Delta cars wear the colours of the sponsor of Sainz, the oiler Repsol. This will be the last year that we will see the Delta Evo's in the race. In total, counting the 4 evolutions of the car, there are 46 victories in the World Rally Championship and the Lancia brand will win the world championship title 6 times in a row.
The Lancia Delta presented in these pages is an authentic EVO 2, one of the last manufactured, entirely built in faithful replica of the mythical Repsol Group A of Carlos Sainz. Built for several years by a mechanic passionate about Lancia, it will be completed in 2015. Mr. R has carried out a VHC preparation faithful to the Gr A in the rules of the trade: welded body, Abarth type reinforcements, Sparco multi-point roll bar, Abarth type anti-roll bars, the engine is revised: lighter block without balancing shaft, forged connecting rods and pistons, balanced crankshaft, custom electronic programming, Turbo Garrett TB035, Abarth type exchanger, etc... the list is long and the power increased to 310 hp is absolutely demonic. The chassis is also completely redesigned with custom suspension and camber settings. The rear axle is a work of art: 4 Abarth type articulated swing arms are added to the 2 lower longitudinal arms. Braking is entrusted to AP Racing's highly effective callipers to stop the machine's power. The former owner will confide to the current owner that the preparation costs close to 100 000 €. When Mr P bought the car, the gearbox and the clutch were redone. The flywheel was changed, the bevel gears were modified in order to better respond to the engine's power. The work was done at 2HP Competition in Rambervilliers, with the replacement of the radiators, for a total of more than 10 000 €. An expert report dated November 2015 brings the value of the Lancia to €100,000. When tested on the small roads of the Jura, the car was surprising in more than one way. The power and above all the torque is phenomenal, the chassis is impressively precise and the braking is flawless. This Delta is not a simple replica but a clone of Carlos Sainz's mythical car.
