The Honda Z was produced from 1970 to 1974 and was marketed here under the name Z 600 in reference to the 598cc engine. Its charm and very personal style, its particularly lively motorbike-like mechanics make it a very nice car. The colour chart offered a very flashy range of colours in accordance with the style of that time. Its rear black surrounded window that forms the tailgate earned it the nickname "television". Although its distribution remained limited in France, the Honda name was beginning to become popular and quotas were introduced at the time to limit an invasion of little Japanese cars in France. Its engine is highly efficient and delivers its maximum power at 9000 rpm. The standard equipment is very complete and well beyond certain models in the higher category. In mid-career on the Japanese market, the car receives a new platform and water-cooled engine inherited from the Honda Life. Honda was too far ahead of its time in the Japanese market with the Z coupe. The midget class was still very utilitarian in the early 1970s and a coupe, however successful it was, did not meet customer expectations. For export markets, the car's size is really too limited, especially in North America. In Europe, the Z coupe was a perfect competitor to the Mini, but Honda had a small network so that sales could really take off.
This rare little Honda sold new in France is today in good general condition. The current owner will acquire it in 2015 and the maintenance will always be done with care since then. The paint was redone a few years ago, the interior is original and without notable wear. The 600 engine is working perfectly and recently a custom made stainless steel exhaust system was installed. The front brakes are new and this original and charming little car is ready to hit the road. With its size and its flamboyant colour it offers a nice alternative to the Fiat 500 and Mini which are often overpriced and less rare. To be collected urgently.
