Beschreibung

In 1964, a new generation of the famed Ford Thunderbird was introduced. Its styling featured a more formal roofline and the same powerful 300 hp, 390 cid V-8 as its predecessor. Its front-end styling was an evolution of the 1963’s bullet nose, giving the pointed front a new design language, while the rear featured horizontal rectangular taillights.

This remarkable 1964 Thunderbird Hardtop is a preservation-class example showing under 36,000 miles when catalogued. According to the consignor, the Thunderbird was acquired and sold by noted classic car dealer Mark Smith around 1972, when it had only 12,000 miles on it. Mr. Smith told the consignor the car was originally purchased from a Ford dealership in New Jersey by a New York City resident and used only on weekends. The consignor acquired the car about five years ago and notes that it appears to remain in highly original condition, with original paint and interior. The consignor’s in-house mechanics performed a tune-up and installed a new exhaust system, new shocks, and new radial whitewall tires within the last several years. Finished in the handsome color combination of black over a white leather interior, this Thunderbird represents a very rare opportunity to acquire an extraordinarily well-preserved example of an American motoring icon.
