Beschreibung
Fiat’s aptly named Jolly was a limited-production model built between 1958 and 1966, and modified by Carrozzeria Ghia specifically to serve the elite’s penchant for cruising, beachcombing, and revelry. The special-edition Fiat 500 launched at almost twice the price of the standard sedan, and while it retained the basic styling of its peers, the Jolly featured deeply sculpted sides, chrome pipework, wicker seats, and a festive surrey top. Weighing in at just 1,000 pounds, the Jolly was advertised with a top speed of 60 mph and fuel economy of 52 mpg. It is believed fewer than 100 examples exist today, and they are highly desirable for their undeniable charm, exuding the very essence of leisure.
This lovely Fiat was built in spring 1959, and is a rare, early production model featuring the distinctive bug-eyed headlamps, a bright Royal Blue finish, and complementary blue and white striped canvas surrey top. It has benefited from ownership in a private automobile collection in California from 2014 to 2021, as well as a superbly executed older restoration, with expertly refurbished wicker seats.
A superb companion vehicle for the marina, boathouse, beach, or on the concours lawn, this sprightly Jolly is a truly outstanding example of Ghia coachwork at its most whimsical, and the smiles-per-mile factor is simply unequaled.
