The Ferrari 308 GTB was introduced at the Paris Salon in 1975 as Ferrari's first glassfibre – 'vetroresina' bodied production car. The new model not only pioneered this new production method for Scaglietti and Ferrari, but was also only the second V8-engined road going model produced by the illustrious marque. Mechanically the car borrowed from the 308 GT4 retaining its predecessor's underpinnings and four-cam, 3.0-litre V8 engine, whose 255bhp was good enough to propel the 308 GTB to a top speed of 240km/h. Whilst the 308 in its various iterations would go on to have a lengthy and successful production run, the use of the composite body was phased out after only 808 cars were produced.

The vetroresina models today represent the most desirable iteration of the iconic 308. A significant weight saving of circa 80kg ensures that these early examples fully exploit the dynamic chassis and engine characteristics of the model. European specification vetroresina models also benefited from the more desirable dry sump lubrication for their V8 engines.

According to the Ferrari Classiche build sheet on file, chassis 18879 was delivered in February 1976 via Campagnano Automobili in Florence. The car was specified new in Nero over Beige leather, and today it still retains this desirable combination.
In 1981 the car passed to an owner in Livorno, and by 2015 the car had made its way to Germany where it benefited from the care and attention of an enthusiastic private collector. The car benefitted from substantial investment commencing in 2015 including an extensive service program, suspension rebuild, steering rack rebuild, new tyres, refurbishment of the air-conditioning system, new exhaust system and sundry other works totally just over 23,100 euros. Invoices and images are available which record in detail this investment. Further invoices record general servicing, cambelts etc in December 2019.

Following this work in 2015, the car was certified by Ferrari Classiche. The Classiche folder noting that the car retains its matching numbers engine and gearbox is on file, along with invoices for the aforementioned work. This desirable, matching numbers vetroresina 308 is undoubtedly worthy of close inspection.
