The Model: John Zachary DeLorean was a man of many visions and dreams. Gaining his engineering degree through the Chrysler Institute he started with MoPar and then moved over to Packard. There he developed the Twin Ultramatic automatic transmission. His next move was to GM’s Pontiac Division where he was engineer chief Pete Estes right-hand man. In 1957 he earned his MBA which helped DeLorean move up through the ranks eventually becoming the General Manager of the Pontiac where he helped under his direction legends as the GTO, Firebird and Grand Prix were born. After he left Pontiac, his next vision was a car of his own, thus was born the DMC-12. Working with a brilliant team of engineers, stylists and the British government his dream came to life, if albeit, too brief a time. Overly ambitious sales goals were not met and within three years the DeLorean automobile was an orphan.

The Car: This example has been cared for from day one. The brushed stainless steel exterior shows no sign of wear or tear and both the front and rear nose and deck end pieces have retained their original colors which allow for them to blend in with the stainless steel finish. Opening the gullwing doors is effortless and the interior had been maintained in factory fresh condition, still sporting a bit of “new car” smell. It is fitted with factory AM/FM radio, heating and air-conditioning plus full instrumentation. All four tires are the same as when the car was built and the engine bay is also fitted with factory hoses, clamps, decal and marking. Whether this time capsule will be put away and kept in its present condition, or freshened up and made road-ready to be enjoyed will be the new owner’s future decision, for this blast to the past.
