The DS Citroën was a gifted car, with the heavy task of succeeding the Traction Avant in 1955. It struck the public with a new and striking line of modernism, a masterpiece of Flaminio Bertoni, but it was also surprising in its technique and design: hydropneumatic suspension, power steering, disc brakes, semi-automatic gearbox to name but a few examples. Twenty years of career and various models ranging from the elegant convertible to the utility station wagon version, she will also shine in competition by winning the Monte-Carlo Rally in 1958. A true myth and symbol of French industrial genius, the DS is one of the most collected cars in the world. There are amateurs driving daily at the wheel in California or even in Australia, proof of its great robustness and ease of use.
The DS we are interested in here is an ID 19 first put into circulation in Tours on June 2, 1967. Sold by the establishments Pichard avenue de Grammont, it was bought by Mr. Boisnon, a butcher by trade and living a few blocks away. She is wearing an AC 133 Kandahar Grey dress with a red fabric interior. In just over 50 years, its owner will have driven only 96,000 km at the wheel. The story is surprising and yet very real but Mr B then retired for a long time, decides (finally) to change his car! He went to his nearest dealer and started buying a new Citroën Picasso. When he was about to make the papers, he told the sales representative that he wanted his old vehicle to be taken back. This is the ID, in his possession for so long! The Citroën garage then bought it and displayed it in its showroom, among the new vehicles. During our visit and test drive, we were surprised by the freshness of the car. Regularly maintained during its 50 years of use, it has always slept in a garage. The upholstery is magnificent, the paint just a little patina but still very beautiful. The test was conclusive and the ride on the small roads of the south of Touraine was very pleasant. No parasitic noise disrupts our driving at the wheel of this car monument. The story is funny and we shouldn't miss the opportunity to buy an ID 19 with less than 100,000 km on the clock and in first hand!

This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in La Ferté-Vidame, at the Citroën Centenary, France, on July the 21th, 2019.
