The oil shocks of the 1970s left car manufacturers with deep traumas. Citroën, for example, was forced to stop producing its SM. To respond to this situation, design offices then began to look for solutions to reduce fuel consumption. The French government is also studying the subject and subsidizing manufacturers' research. We are already talking about production vehicles consuming 3 litres per 100 km, with the year 2000 as the deadline. Ahead of other French automakers, Citroën will offer 4 prototypes called ECO 2000.
The proposed model is the third in the series. Full to window height, it was used to perform wind tunnel tests for the SA 109 model. With a CX of 0.321 and a fuel consumption of 3.5 litres, its rolling version will even be tested by journalists. Engineers and technicians have worked extensively on this prototype to produce the fourth version
