- First series "low roof" series
While the CX does not feature any major technical developments, it is still the first Citroën production car with a transverse front engine. And if it does not immediately win the unanimous approval of the brand's regular customers, blaming it for its lack of innovation, the CX captivates journalists with its outstanding driving qualities and its comfort. Although criticized in its early days in 1974, the large sedan was a definite commercial success. The following year, a luxury Prestige version appeared in the catalogue. This one is extended (+25 cm) and will see its pavilion raised two years later. President Giscard d'Estaing reportedly complained about the lack of headroom once seated in the back. Indeed, the CX quickly became the emblematic car of the governing institutions and was adopted by Jacques Chirac, which we will see on the Champs Elysées on the evening of his presidential election in 1995. When the CX was restyled in 1985, the Prestige also adopted supercharging and officially became the most expensive Citroën. It was replaced in 1989 by the XM but still remains to this day an excellent road with very modern comfort.
The copy we are presenting to you was first registered in 1976, so it is a "low flags" version identical to the one used by President Giscard d'Estaing. This CX Prestige series 1 was purchased new by one of the founding surgeons of the CHU La Tronche in Grenoble and will keep it for more than 30 years. It was a film producer who was passionate about the brand that acquired it in second hand at the end of the 2000s. For the anecdote, he will develop in collaboration with Alain Juteau the famous presidential CX of Greenland (Canal+ cult show), a car he still owns today. The CX we are interested in here is equipped with the 2.4l carburettor coupled to a 4-speed gearbox. Aesthetically, this Prestige has never been restored and is in its original juice while the beige velvet interior is in good condition. With just under 140,000 kilometres on the meter, the mechanics are working properly but minor work will have to be done before travelling long distances
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in La Ferté-Vidame, at the Citroën Centenary, France, on July the 21th, 2019.
