Beschreibung

After the 20-year reign of the DS models, Citroën unveiled the last car to be created as an independent company using the principles of its famous engineer André Lefèbvre, the CX 2000. Introduced at the 1974 Paris Auto Show as the replacement for the successful DS, the CX featured the powerplant from the DS and the steering components from the Maseratipowered SM. Styled by Robert Opron, it was named European Car of the Year by a consortium of automotive magazines in 1975.

The CX line utilized the hydropneumatic suspension featured on the DS but was more compact and aerodynamic. CX is the French expression for the coefficient of drag, and even in the modernistic world of European cars in the 1970s, the CX remained a worthy continuation of the advanced aerodynamic and technical thinking that had become Citroën’s hallmark with the Traction Avant and the DS models.

By 1979, the CX 2000 line – including the 2.2-liter CX 2200 – was replaced by the Reflex and Athena models which were created by Peugeot, Renault, and Volvo. Today, a CX 2200 has become quite rare and is seldom seen in the US. This superb example, finished in an attractive light metallic blue, is correct in all period details and is highly collectible. Offered from a significant collection of French cars, this avant-garde Citroën is worthy of closer inspection.
