- The iconic vehicle of the first Corvette Sports Car, produced in 1954, the model’s first year of industrial production. The Corvette was introduced in 1953, a year in which only 300 examples were handcrafted in white with red interiors for VIP customers and advertising while the factory was being set up. By 1954, 3,640 units were produced and the build quality was much improved.
- The proposed example was imported from America into England and arrived in Italy in the late 1990s, registered only in 2019. Equipped with Italian number plates and logbook, certifications of both CRS (Historical Relevance Certificate) and ASI (Italian Historical Autoclub) gold plate.
Fibreglass bodywork in excellent condition, in the typical Polo white colour with “Sportsman red” interior, the only ones in combination with white, but also all other colours except blue. Chassis in excellent condition, as is the interior trim.
- Mechanics subjected to a complete overhaul after several years of non-use, car now in very good working order. New tyres, distributor modified to increase reliability, brakes and gearbox serviced. This example is not fitted with the 6-cylinder engine coupled to the automatic gearbox that so many customers complained about at the time because of its poor performance, but with the powerful 5.4L V8 that was made available from 1968. The V8 engine is duly recorded in the logbook. The story of the modification is that the Corvette was bought by a wealthy Texan oilman, but used mostly by his English wife, who continually complained about the poor performance and convinced her husband to replace the engine with the higher-performance V8 as soon as it was available on the market. So in 1969, the Corvette was updated with the mighty V8 four-barrel carburettor, bought new especially for this car. The engine modification thus dates back to the late 1960s and is duly recorded in the logbook. Very rare to find in Italy, but also very rare in its country of origin, given the few examples built in 1954; rumours suggest that this model may soon be eligible for the Mille Miglia.
