The Model - Launching the second generation of Chevrolet's iconic Camaro was a bit of challenge for Chevrolet. First, there were problems with the body stampings and by the time those were re-engineered, labor issues shut down production at the Norwood assembly plant which meant no 1970 Camaros. When the new Camaros were finally put on sale they were marketed as 1970 ½ models. Minimal changes were made for the 1971 models, and they were a smash success. Almost from the day these sleek coupes went on sale, the urge to improve upon the factory specs was in full swing. Now, some 46 years later, new technologies can help builders create machines that car far out perform, out shine, and out last the originals configurations. A few years ago, the term "Resto-Mod" was created to describe a vehicle that retained a majority of its stock appearance, but under that facade of authenticity was a modern, powerful car that blended old and new together. That is exactly what this 1971 Camaro represents.

The Car - One of the most popular colors on the 1971 Camaro was Lime Green Metallic. One of the most popular packages was the RS or Rally Sport, with which one could special order interior appointments such as a two-spoke steering wheel, the option of custom racing stripes, Year One simulated mag wheels and a split front bumper configuration. This example has all those touches but with a modern spin. The front bumpers are done in weight-saving carbon-fiber, the custom 17" wheels have the look of stock, but give the car the stance of power. Under the hood a modern LS1 small-block V8 powers the car backed up by a Turbo-Hydramatic transmission. Looking inside the car one might think you were stepping back in time with the sporty black vinyl seats and RS steering wheel, but you will notice the new easy-to-read gauges and that Pioneer stereo system neatly mounted in the dashboard. You can stay cool with the R134A air-conditioning system, and Wilwood disc brakes make sure the drive is safe. With only test miles on this mean-green machine since its build, it is fresh and ready to be taken to a local show, garner a few trophies, and then hit the road.
