Supplied new to France
507bhp V10
Rare options
The marque with the spinning-propeller badge made an enduring impression in 1984 when it launched the famous M635 CSi. Renamed M6 at the end of its life, there was a 20-year wait before the name was revived. With the new M6 of 2005, controversially styled by Chris Bangle, BMW offered a sizeable 2+2 coupé with the hot-rod mechanicals of the M5 saloon. A rival to the Ferrari 612 and the Mercedes CL65 AMG, the normally-aspirated V10 coupé, its lines eventually accepted, went on to be a worldwide success, and in 2006 was joined by a cabriolet. The car rose to the technical challenge of housing a 507bhp power unit in an open car without compromising the strength of the shell, and even when abused the body demonstrated perfect structural rigidity.
The M6 cabriolet presented here was first registered in France on 7 July 2006. An impressive list of options includes ‘soft close’ assisted door-closing and a television. Finished in metallic Sepang Bronze, there are no imperfections in the coachwork to signal, thanks to the care the owner has obviously lavished on the car. A major service in 2017 took in an overhaul of the gearbox and the front brakes, a refurbishment of the wheels, and a new set of tyres, the bill coming to something in the order of 10,000€. On test the BMW is powerful and agile, with the SMG gearbox functioning perfectly and the brakes stunningly effective. The hood operates correctly and shows no wear. It is worth pointing out that in 2010 BMW abandoned the V10 in favour of a less thirsty and cheaper-to-make V8, so this is the perfect opportunity to buy a rare normally-aspirated V10 of a type no longer available new.
This car will be sold during an auction sale organized by AGUTTES Auction House.
It will take place in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on March the 17th, 2019.
