Beschreibung
Upon their introduction in 1966, BMW’s 02 series of cars changed the landscape for fun executive transportation. Competing directly with Alfa Romeo’s Giulia GT and Porsche’s 912, the BMW’s practical layout, stately styling, robust mechanicals, and dynamic driving character won it a loyal following that endures to this day. Among the most desirable of all 02 variants is the 2002 tii, which accounted for less than 10% of total 2002 production and was built between 1971 and 1974. The tii used state-of-the-art Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection to boost the two-liter, four-cylinder engine’s output to 130 hp, and the car was good for an honest 115 mph.
This lovely example is from the final year of tii production, and benefits from restoration work completed by the previous owner, Timothy Jason of Waukesha, Wisconsin. In addition to the refurbishment of the body and interior, this BMW was treated to some tasteful upgrades. The standard four-speed gearbox was swapped for a later five-speed unit, European-spec bumpers, and turn indicators were installed, as was a Nardi steering wheel and a modern air-conditioning system from Dtechparts. A background file containing numerous receipts from the restoration accompanies the BMW at auction.
Rudy Mancinas added the tii to his collection in 2020, no doubt looking towards enjoying the car for the same desirable traits that make it a great opportunity for its next lucky owner.
