Beschreibung
The BMW 2002 Turbo was launched at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show. It stormed on to the market as Europe's, first turbocharged production car. The 2002 Turbo produced 170 hp at 5,800 rpm using the 2002 tii engine with a KKK turbocharger and a compression ratio of 6.9:1.
Think of the BMW 2002 Turbo as the M3 for the 1970s, and you're not a million miles away. It was a pocket-sized saloon with true sportscar performance there were few other saloons in the world that could keep up. Only 1,672 were built, making them rare and desirable today.
It is understood that the example offered here was first delivered new to Italy where it spent much of its life until discovered by our vendor in 2014. The car has spent a very sheltered life having been offered in part exchange against a boat some 20+ years ago and soon after founding its way in to long-term dry storage whilst in the ownership of the boat broker. Our vendor then discovered the vehicle and added it to his personal collection; a change of plans has meant the car is now offered here today.
The car appears to be in very much untouched condition other then appearing to have been subject to a respray many years ago. Presented with a current MoT a UK NOVA has been completed and registration has been applied for.
At last the 2002 Turbo is being considered properly by the serious car collector and people now realise how important this car is, not just to BMW Motorsport but also to automotive history. With only 1,672 examples ever produced and being the first European Turbocharged road car, they are now getting the respect they deserve from the true enthusiast.
