Beschreibung

After WWII, noted car designer and rally racer Donald Healey developed a new sports car, based on the Austin A90’s mechanicals. When unveiled to great fanfare at the 1952 London Motor Show, Healey’s design caught the attention of British auto manufacturer Austin. Healey and Leonard Lord of Austin soon agreed to produce Healey’s sports car at Austin’s Longbridge facility. History was made, and the Austin-Healey 100 was born.

A racer at heart, Healey immediately set out to prove the car’s sporting prowess by running 143.6 mph at Bonneville, and finishing 12th in class and 14th overall at the 1953 Le Mans 24 Hours. To celebrate the car’s impressive Le Mans performance, a kit was offered to customers to upgrade their cars to Le Mans specification.

This striking Austin-Healey 100/4 includes the Le Mans kit and is finished in Spruce Green. It remains in remarkable condition, thanks to a comprehensive older restoration, which still presents beautifully. Lifting its louvered and leather-strapped bonnet reveals a robust engine sporting uprated SU carburetors, a rare cold air intake box, and backed by a preferable four-speed synchromesh gearbox.

This Austin Healey 100/4 presents its owner with the opportunity to fold down the windscreen, grasp the white rope wrapped original steering wheel, row the four-speed gearbox, and channel their inner Sir Stirling Moss while piloting a high-performance Austin Healey.
