First seen at the 2003 Detroit Motor show in the guise of the concept car AMV8 Vantage, the new “baby Aston” as it was then nicknamed, would be put on the market in the summer of 2005. It would be added to a catalogue that was as short as it was prestigious, consisting at that time of the Vanquish S and the more recent DB9. At that period, the benchmark for “small GTs” was the Porsche 911 Carrera S, but Ford, then the owner of Aston Martin, intended to upset the established hierarchy. More exotic than its rival from Stuttgart, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, with a 4.3 litre engine producing 385 bhp, showed itself to have a well honed personality. Very well balanced and agile, thanks to its hydraulic power steering, the small Aston had very predictable and sure-footed handling, although it weighed nearly 1.6 tons, which was considerably more than the Porsche 911 Carrera S or the Ferrari F430. But the Dane Henrik Fisker, the author of this superb design, considered that the V8 Vantage was his finest work for Aston Martin and the model did indeed achieve the success for which its creators had been hoping. In fact, from 2006, the first year after the model’s launch, Aston Martin almost doubled its production volume.

Our Aston Martin V8 Vantage was delivered new on the 18th of January 2008 by the Belgian official distributor René Michiels. She was regularly maintained by the Aston Martin agent network in Belgium until 2012, when she was brought to France by her second owner. Very much attached to the car, he has only now decided to part with her in order to buy a more recent Aston. A full document file includes the purchase invoice and the original service record. Discreet and elegant in her Meteorite Silver paintwork, this Aston Martin V8 Vantage is in very good overall condition. The bodywork is well preserved for a vehicle having covered 79 000 kilometres and the interior appears to have been treated with care by the two previous owners. The superb seats in two-tone leather are in good condition and all the instruments, including the onboard navigation system, function correctly. At the wheel, the 6-speed manual gearbox is a particular pleasure to use. The short-throw changes are firm and precise and the ratios of the close-ratio box are well spaced. It is a bit muscular but so much more exhilarating than the paddles of a sequential box! Both beautiful and sporty, thanks to the powerful V8 engine, this baby Aston has all the attributes of its big sisters and is a real alternative to a Porsche 911.
