The Giulia GTA and GTAm were made to celebrate Alfa Romeo’s 110th anniversary; in total 500 of both variants combined were produced. The GTA is essentially a track focused version of the Giulia Quadrifoglio with the GTAm being even more extreme.
Both versions have been developed with weight-saving in mind with several carbon body panels used, however the GTAm takes things further by removing the rear seats and using Lexan glass for the rear windows, additionally it has a half roll cage and harnesses. These measures mean that it weighs about 1,580kg, around 100kg less than a Quadrifoglio. Visually the most noticeable difference between these cars and the Quadrifoglio is the aggressive aero. Using F1 expertise from Sauber Engineering it features much more striking front end and splitter as well as side skirt fins, diffuser and a sculpted rear wing. Front and rear track has been widened 50mm and distinct extended wheel arches made of carbon accommodate 20-inch centre lock wheels.
Power from the twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 was increased by 30hp to 540hp, making it Alfa Romeo’s most powerful car ever, this was achieved thanks to redesigned pistons, ECU remap and an Akrapovic exhaust system. The springs, dampers and bushing have been stiffened and the ride height lowered to improve handling.
This car is the successor of the original Giulia GTAm from over 50 years ago, a small coupe sports car that was highly successful in motorsport and like its predecessor, it will surely mark a high point in Alfa Romeo’s history.
