In 1959, the Texan Carroll Shelby is victorious at Le Mans, driving an Aston Martin DBR1. Shortly afterwards, his doctor declared him unfit to continue competing due to health problems. Frustrated by this unhappy news, Shelby set himself a new challenge: to create a sports car himself. To do so, he called on AC Cars, an English company that produces the AC Ace roadsters, and on Ford to obtain engines. The assembly of the two gives then the Shelby Cobra whose motorizations will be the following ones: V8 260ci, V8 289ci and V8 427ci. Shelby started the production of its models in 1962 and sold them to private individuals in order to finance its competition participations. And the least we can say is that competition works! The Cobra roadsters were successful in endurance and hill-climbing races. Of course, a few setbacks, especially mechanical ones, were recorded during the Cobra's life, but nothing could mar Mr Shelby's perseverance. He even set out to conquer Europe with his cars. On the road, individuals, driving their Cobras, crush the competition at red lights. These cars quickly gained quite a reputation. During his life, the car preparer also produced other wonders such as the Cooper Monaco ""King Cobra"", the Mustang Shelby GT 350 and 500 or the GT40. His fame and that of his cars is no longer to be made, so much so that the Cobra is the most replicated car in the world.
The car we present is a replica of the AC Cobra of Mr Shelby. With a body from the Cobra 427, it is painted in red and has a beige interior. A roll bar protects the passenger and the driver. The car is in good general condition but a mechanical revision is required in order to be able to take the road safely. Its simplicity to be driven makes it endearing and it is an excellent way to enter the Shelby universe with a small budget but assured sensations."
